character information
name: Earl Vincent Phantomhive
canon: Black Butler
canon point: After his death.
age: 34

(canon) background: A short, sad account of an English Earl.

abilities: ♚ He is a normal human (as far as I know)

♚ with a superior intellect (he must to work for Queen Victoria)

♚ who is fond (and quite skilled) at tricking others to get what he wants.

♚ I assume he is also an excellent shot with his gun (hunting is normal for nobles)

♚ a fair rider (you can't hunt without a horse)

♚ and a skilled swordsman.

♚ As far as his intelligence is concerned, he is a learned man (who knows his Latin).

strengths: The son takes after the father in many respects. Ciel's love of games, of strategy and being victorious is shared by Vincent. The Earls of Phantomhive seem to be blessed with sharp intellects and very little empathy when it comes to their foes (i.e. those who interfere with Her Majesty, Queen Victoria). However, to the outside world, Vincent can be quite charming - prone to warm smiles and pleasantries. His love for his family is obvious - he would do anything to protect them - yet he knows he has made many, many enemies.

He hints, fairly early on, that he accepts that he might die, but he is unconcerned as long as Ciel lives on. (I do not think he imagines Rachel dying too - thus his nonchalance in said conversation with Diedrich.) Vincent is not the sort to worry and fret over tomorrow when there is so much to do today. He will play whatever hand is dealt him as best as he can and hold no regret should he, personally, fail.

He has a son, after all. The Phantomhive name is secure.

Between business deals, which he seems to enjoy (if only because he gets to toy with others), Vincent makes time to sip tea with his friends, his family and he even seems to enjoy playing with the children (i.e. Ciel and Elizabeth). Rachel and Ciel's health is also a priority for him and it is not odd to see him waiting on them when they are ill or trying to make them smile.

weaknesses: For all his strengths, he does, of course, have some rather glaring weaknesses. He is prone to laziness - when he thinks he can get away with it - and an over-inflated ego that, while it gets under the skin of his enemies, earns him enemies in the first place. He, as an aristocrat, feels no guilt in using others for the end he desires and he will not shed a tear for them should they perish in the process. Thus, it can be said, outside of his family and close friends, Vincent Phantomhive is downright cruel. (Tanaka remarked to Ciel that Vincent would not waste a moment grieving over the loss of a servant, for example.)

He is also prone to keeping secrets. I do not know if anyone - his wife included - knows the full extent of what he has said/done. He only reveals the details that seem useful/productive at the moment to those he deems worthy (or those he is using). In a way, that protects him from someone ratting him out, however it does mean he appears quite distant - untouchable even - to those who choose to orbit around him.

job skills (optional): Vincent is intelligent, efficient, organized, lethal and very good at charming others.
housing (optional): If he could live with his little son, Ciel, that would be amazing.

network sample: His arrival in another game.

prose/action sample: He liked dogs and they came in an abundance of useful forms. Many failed to notice that some of the best breeds lacked fur and four legs. Well, that wasn't entirely true. He was sure Diedrich had fur somewhere. Maybe he was one of the hairless variety?

What a perfect guardian for Rachel and Ciel! They could breathe easy in his presence.

A cold nose nudged his hand and Vincent turned, smiling down at his wolfhound.

"I did not mean to imply that they don't breathe easy around you." he laughed when the dog smiled, rising from his seat, "Come, Sebastian."

They strode down the hall, two shadows in a vast mansion and opened a door on the left. Vincent let Sebastian in first and then he followed. The dog was as welcome as he - and maybe more so. A wolfhound could only make enemies showing his teeth.

"Welcome. I trust you have all been attended to?" he knew they had. Phantomhive hospitality was not something he ever let go amiss.

Or, rather, Tanaka made sure it never went amiss.

"As you know, my son's tenth birthday is fast approaching." there was a general murmur of congratulations and he raised a hand, "He is growing, but he is not grown. In our world, that could prove...enticing." his features darkened, "I am trusting on you to be vigilant on that day."

Perhaps the shock of seeing Vincent Phantomhive behaving seriously would convince them. He hoped so. Rachel and Ciel were his treasures.

Sebastian growled low in his throat, echoing some of his tension. Vincent laid a hand on his head.

"Good boy."
